Professor Coxhead is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO) in Japan. He joined IDE in 2022, following a distinguished tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, where he served as a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics from 1991 to 2022, and as department chair from 2012 to 2017. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Australian National University in 1990.
An eminent economist, Professor Ian Coxhead specializes in the study of growth, trade and development, with a particular focus on Southeast and East Asia. His primary research examines the efffect of globalization and global market shocks on labor markets and educational choices in developing economies. Additionally, his research interests include the interactions between trade, natural resources, and the environment. , Professor Coxhead has conducted extensive field research throughout Southeast Asia and has lived, studied and taught in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan.
